HKR 1000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Sagittal Plane, Median Plane, Histology
Document Summary
Gross anatomy- without the aid of a microscope. Microscopic anatomy- with the aid of a microscope. Anatomical position is the standard reference position of the body used to describe the location of structures. Anatomical planes: frontal planes: are oriented vertically and divide the body into anterior(front) and posterior(back) parts. A motion in this plane would be like making a snow angle: sagittal planes: also are oriented vertically but are at the right angles to the coronal planes and divide the body into right and left parts. This parts may or may not be equal. A motion in this position could be twisting your upper body. Terms to describe location: anterior(ventral): known as the front of the body. For example the nose is anterior: posterior(dorsal): known as the back of the body. For example your vertebral column in posterior: medial and lateral: this describes the position of the structures relative to the median sagittal plane and the sides of the body.
