Light enters the eye and reaches the retina. Some animals have special adaptations that allow them to see under very dim illumination, but no animal can see in complete darkness. The light reflected into your eyes from the objects around you is the basis for your ability to see them; if there is no light, there is no vision. Light has 2 forms: photons discrete particles of energy travelling through space at 300 000 km, wave waves of electromagnetic energy between 380-760 nanometers. Wavelength and intensity are two properties of light: wavelength- plays an important role in the perception of colour. Intensity- plays an important role in perception of brightness. The amount of light reaching the retinas is regulate by the donut shaped bands of contractile tissue -> the irises (give our eyes their characteristic colour) Light enters through the pupil (hole in the iris).
