President johnson/jackson pardons southern land owners from which the land came. Most blacks go back to working on farms. Sharecropping. - a system in which you rent land and give as payment a share of your crops. You have to rent so many tools and equipment that many blacks end up in debt. 1876 reconstruction ends, occupation of northern army ends in south. Reconstruction recreates the society created b4 the war, but the mishandling of blacks is a fatal flaw: the only thing holding the country back from expansion is indians. Gold is found in that area and white settlers begin to move in. the. Indians attack the settlers and the government sends soldiers. The dawes act- takes indian land and gives it to the government: the triumph of capitalism.
