Propose why the male and female reproductive system have similar components: they are similar in terms of symmetry there are 2 testes, 2 ovaries, 1 uterus, and 1 penis. They are different in many respects, including hormonal influences, general structure, and the structure of the gametes. The similarities are present because both the embryology for male and female reproductive anatomy are not seen until later weeks of development. Involves a variety of structures working in synchrony to create and transport the male gamete cell, sperm: sperm are produced in the testes and transported through a duct system to reach the external world. In a single ejaculation, there are approximately 100 million sperm present. Testes: seminiferous tubules: coils; sperm producing factories, each testes contains its own seminiferous tubule and each is approximately 80 cm when coiled. In the loose connective tissue between these tubules, leydig cells are found produce and secrete testosterone.
