Head/ caput: contains and receives sperm from seminiferous tubules
Body/corpus: in posterior-lateral border of the testis and contains the highly coiled
duct of the epididymis, upper part forms a cap around upper pole of testis
Tail/cauda: near inferior border of the testis, coiling of duct diminishes, reverses
direction and ascends into ductus deferens, stores sperm,
Ductus deferens
45 cm, forms ejaculatory duct w seminal duct, empties into prostatic urethra,
expanded portion before reaching prostate= ampulla
Pseudostrat columnar w stereocilia, thick inner long, middle circular and out long
smooth muscle propels sperm during ejaculation (seminal vesicles add 60% liquid,
prostate secretions, bulburethral gland secretion)
urethra
15-20cm, prostatic membranous penile/spongy
Accessory glands
Seminal vesicles: large coiled tubular glands in front of rectum, pseudostrat
columnar or cuboidal depending on testo levels
Yellow viscous alkaline fluid containg fructose, absorbic acid, coagulating enzymes,
prostaglandins adds 60% of V to semen
Joins to ejaculatory ducts and mizes w sperm making them motile
Prostate: single gland, surrounds prostatic urethra, supports sperm
Consists of 30-50 tubular glands embedded in a mass of smooth muscle and CT,
prod and secretes milky alkaline prostatic fluid (30% of fluid) + seminalplasmin
(antibiotic)
Pseudo columnar
Prostate cancer: increased peeing, pain during intercourse, blood in urine tested
using PSA
Bulbourethral: Cowper’s glands, pea-sized located below prostate at base of penis,
secretes thick clear alkaline mucus drains into penile urethra to neut acidic urine
and lub urethra + penis
Simple columnar, <5% of fluid
Semen
Sperm+ accessory gland secretions, provides transport, nutrition, activation and
protection of sperm, fibrinolysin liquefies semen
