Bridging the world of art history, conservation and conservation science. 1927, a collaboration of artists and conservation scientist, What did the artists use could tell us about the time period. What does the different techniques could tell us about the artists. The value of doing reconstruction is that it gives detail and subtlety about the specific artist. Important to search the original appearance of the painting. Involved a lot of collaboration with conservation scientists. What do conservators need to know: what objects are made of. Composite: how objects are made; manufactured, processed, fabricated, how materials and objects deteriorate finished, etc, how to stop objects from deteriorating; preventive conservation, how to fix them once they have fallen apart treatment (objects cannot be fixed) Paintings: easel (canvas & panel) and wall. Paper: works of art, archival materials, books. Aic(america"s institution of conservation)"s six primary areas of conservation. Prior to and after treatment, loan, exhibition.
