Monday, october 23rd: general introduction, evidence on torture, laurion. Slavery was different in athens as it was personal while slavery in sparta was communal. Major topics: sources of slaves, buying and selling, torture, slave labour (mining, Farm, trades, domestic services, sex trade, public, rights of slaves (none), art. The led was still rolled up with the address on the outside and the led would"ve been repurposed if it was received: the letter explains that he was literally treated as if he were mud. A slave could be enslaved in a home (best slave situation), farms, mines. Slaves for the most part lived with their master, some exception exist (farm-apartment example). Escaping slavery: runaway slave: slaves were not branded so if successful, blending into society was possible, asylum: not escaping slavery, escape from abusive master to be transferred to another master best case.
