Who were the early romans an who were their neighbours: the peoples and languages of. Roma = latin, rome = anglicized form. Settled along the tiber river: on one side of the river was rome, the other side was etruria aka. The etruscans: modern day, this region is called tuscany. The tyrrhenian sea is a different way of saying the etruscan sea. On the other side (eastern side), you have the adriatic sea. In the latium plain, everyone spoke (basically) the same language and worshipped the same gods. Sicily was originally considered a different country, contrary to modern days. Important latin towns: lavinium, alba longa, tusculum, praeneste, tibur. Neighbours of the latins spoke different but related languages. Umbrian, sabine, and sabellian languages are part of italic family of languages. Neighbours of romans, etruscans, were only ones who spoke a non-related language.
