What these philosophers mean: we don"t speak english, english speaks us. English constrains us to say what has already been said before. Greeks and romans knew a thing or two about insides of animals. Reason they knew so little: refuses to learn anatomy by dissecting corpses. Greeks and romans thought if you tampered with a dead body, it would be born by the shade in the underworld. Roman catholics rejected cremation because they believe remains must stay the same for resurrection. During 15th century, pope sixtus iv issued a papal bull for dissection, which lead to anatomical drawings. Since they didn"t know anything about the human body for a while, their imaginations were able to run wild. Came up with idea that it was governed by four liquids/humours:
