Second theory among people who build machines in antiquity: building mostly for show things kings and princes can put on display. No such thing as a gas in antiquity only just air: not until well into the 1700s that we discover there are more than one type of gas. Appealing to pragmatics but none of their devices are pragmatic all meant for entertainment. But before proceeding to our proper subject, we must treat of the vacuum. Vessels which seem to most men empty are not empty, as they suppose, but full of air. Now the air, as those who have treated of physics are agreed, is composed of particles minute and light, and for the most part invisible. Does not believe in an extended void thinks there is void in minute proportions: air we move through has little tiny voids in it, along with everything else around us.
