Shift in trends at start of 7th c. that signify the start of a new era in greek history. Transition from art in beginning of iron age, going into the 8th c. Before of the iron age, we have mycenaean art that feature pictures, then the geometric and protogeometric phases appear in the 8th c. with stick figures and stereotyped scenes ie. hunting or fighting scenes (very rudimentary) In the 7th c. we have a more expressive form of art. Framing devices used to cut pot into 3 different scenes. Middle scene just features animals running around, similar to near eastern art.
