Document Summary
Between the altar of the 12 gods and the odeion: north of the odeion. Was located elsewhere and was relocated here. Originally built in the 5th c. somewhere else ca. 440 436 bce: original site of the temple is unknown. Known as the wandering temple because it was disassembled and rebuilt on this spot. Dedicated to augustus before his death because he isn"t identified as a god in the inscription. Site was occupied by the cult of ares until ca. Remains used in the building of the valerian wall or late roman fortifications. Some paint traces have remained that show us how the temple was decorated: shades of reds, blues, and whites. Similar to the hephaisteion: built around the same time and made of similar materials, made differentiating materials difficult. Lower levels of foundation are still visible. Blocks of foundation are in situ on the east side. Every block excavated has 2-3 letters carved into them.
