Document Summary
Stress = a reaction to a stressor that has the potential to make a person feel tense or anxious. People have important goals; stress is a response to perceived threats to those goals. Problem solving (get rid of stressor/reduce its effect on you) Personality traits = characteristics on which people differ that are relatively stable across situations and over time. High level of emotional stability = low level of neuroticism. Traits are mutually exclusive; one does not influence another. Strong situation = clear social norms/cultural norms that dictate what is appropriate/inappropriate behaviour. Personality traits are not good predictors of people"s behaviours. Weak situation = very few constraints on people"s behaviours; have much more latitude. Easier to tell people"s personality traits; are good predictor of people"s behaviours. Notion of high/low shifted to notion of fit. Important to think about the demand of the job. High conscientiousness is always highest & strongest relationship with job performance.
