Challenge: hard to plant, corn important to get universe spacing and uniform. Create biomass that go back to soil, soil is a living system: growing medium + source provider. If till the soil too much, break the holding power of soil. Fertilized into soil will prevent it wash away. Diff root system, diff structure, diff ability to capture sunlight. Challenge: get the appropriate tech to protect soil. Price of land increases due to development and increasing demand. Family farm is not easy to access land rent.
