thCritical InquiryFebruary 27Origins of HBOwas a cable provider where you had to pay for it It was how they made their money and basically had no commercials Stands for HOME BOX OFFICE The idea that tv and movies were being competition for your money1989 HBO is owned by Time Warner 1997 with the HBO special OZ Sex in the City Sopranos Six Feet Under What is the HBO Brand One of the criticisms of the brand is basically smug tv presented for smart viewers Have gone through many slogans 962009its not TV its HBO How is HBO different1 The cosmeticthe nudity the killing which the FCC has NO control over2 Pay for it Who can afford to pay for this HBO doesnt care how many shows you watch They do not have to cater below its common denominator However Network tv wants to get you to watch as much as possible HBO starts their shows whenever they want to They dont follow the summer break or the fall slate of incoming new shows HBO shows tend to use a lot of the same talent pool directors actors
