The network era is from 1950 to 1970 where in 1960 about 90% of homes in. During the three decades of broadcast television, huge masses of viewers tuned in at the same time and consumed the same shows. Tv historians would argue that television was the primary source of shared culture during 1950 to 1970. In that sense, network television plays a role in nation building. It helps people make sense of our lives especially during a tragic event. In times of crisis we turn to tv to understand what"s happening has a massive impact on public opinion. In that way television operates as a cultural pedagogy, it"s instructional, influential and inspirational. It affects the way we perceive the world through newscasts (serious programs) , melodrama and soap drama (diverge nary programs) Television has a cultivation effect reap what you sow. So if audience watch lots of police procedurals, they understand the world in those televisual references.
