Document Summary
Continental glacial landforms (glaciolacustrine: erosional and depositional / glacial, fluvial (glaciofluvial), lacustrine, glacial drift all varieties deposited as a result of continental glaciation. Stratified drift: layers of clays, silts, sands, gravels deposited by meltwater associated with the glacier. Till: unstratified and deposited by the ice; ranges from clay to boulder sizes: drift thickness varies greatly, depending on amount of debris in the ice, pre- existing topography, and nature of movement. Interlobate moraine consists of two end moraines deposited side-by-side by margins of two adjacent lobes. Eskers: knobby, sinuous ridges comprised of sand and gravel that (typically) run parallel to direction of ice movement, formed via deposition of sediments in subglacial meltwater streams, range in size; codrington esker (north of trenton) is ca. In southern ontario usually on surface of till. Knobby or cone-shaped hills of irregularly stratified sand and gravel thought to form in holes in ice where sediment accumulates.
