Document Summary

Builds on work from the (cid:883)(cid:891)(cid:891)(cid:882)(cid:495)s at the un food and agriculture organization. Main focus is on wood from forests, we also consider woody and non wood energy crops but rely more heavily on literature (i. e previous study) Liquid fuels biggest driver of the biorefinery, biggest volume product (not value product) Many good studies looking at future fuel use considered in the analysis. 10 of 25 countries examined have declining trends in road transportation fuel use in recent years: oil & fuel use are declining. Estimates from literature, and/or based on annual trends from eia data (2- year, 3-year and 20-year trends considered) in some cases trends are volatile (i. e china, usa), indicating shifts in fuel use underway. Production in 2009 was about 1920 pj targets translate into between 630 pj and 10390 pj per annum. Brazil is still the only country whose production exceeds mandates.
