Space tends to be a place but just the physical aspects of it. Scale linked traditionally to a way of organising space e. g. municipal, national also politically/socially defined. Critical urban geography is about being a part of the urbanised world we study. being partial; academics will never know all, and being willing to take an intellectual and political stance. Considers social justics, inequlity and oppression in the city. Urabn built environments are neither natural or unchanging. 1. 2 being critical, being urbanist interaction, global interconnection and massive inequality. Geography defined by how we study the world, not what we study (approach). Study connections and similarities and divisions and differences. Marx and engels 19th c english cities; intense economic activities, novel social. Cities have long inspired awe (bright lights, big city) Spatiality space and society are mutually constitutive. Scaled regions, nations and global can all be seen as places (at different scales) Either in levels o as a social product.
