Colonization often referring to a historical event- act of" but colonialism is the political and social dominance from one group to the other often involving violence and imposing pre- exisiting ideals on other people groups. Direct link violent invasion and interruption of life of native people and disruption of lifestyle resulting in cultural deterioration in the current moment. Can be seen in systematic violence against indigenous women- kidnappings, rape etc. ( roughly connected to social forces, most of which occurred before their birth) Vibrant indigenous societies existed before colonization, women in these societies were high valued and here men and women had the same social standing. But the patriarchal western society viewed women differently( chastised, forced innocence etc). Colonialism had hugely detrimental effects on the social status of women and how they were viewed in society, stereotypes emerged and were ways that the patriarchy subverted the power, status and role of women in the indigenous community.
