People like to talk about age (age of revolution, age of discovery, etc. ) Convenient means to divide up time so we can understand it better. Construction that helps distinguish time from what came before. We could look at the history of capitalism and divide it into phases. Phases of capitalism - three of them - have an associated technological phase. There is one overriding technological feature that is dominant in society at that time. Whoever controls that technology, owns that technological setup, forms core economic route of the war. Those who don"t, become peripheral in the economic landscape of the time. Have a distinct phase of capitalism associated with phase of technological features. Way that we understand the different arts, literature, etc. of the time. Able to clock together different creations of art from the time under that rubric. Interesting observation that we can divide up history of capitalism into three years. Had steam power as the most important technology.
