~ 1969- criminal code of canada law reform introduced by pierre trudeau. Bill famous for covering topics such as: divorce, contraception, sexuality. ~ birth control was only allowed for married women, and for the purpose of controlling their periods. Young single women were not happy about this. They thought that the government was hypocritical by saying that the women were immoral for wanting access to birth control, while at the same time the government was all for supplying the state with weapons for war. ~ in order for a woman to be granted an abortion, doctors had to claim that the pregnancy endangered her life. ~trudeau"s goal was to create some access to abortion while also compromising morally with the catholic church, which was hard to do. ~ canada gained full access to abortion in 1988.
