The beginning of the war: irvin mcdowell, had very interesting ideas for attacking. He had no experience directing a large scale battle, his plan needed experienced people, and a well-trained army, so his plan didn"t really work out. Exaggerated confederate strength, he truly believes this, part of it is false information, part of it is fear. Blamed lincoln, believed he was a baboon and was stupid: 1862, still looking bad for union, mcclellan not really doing much with his army, They expected no attack, and therefore had no defense, on april 6, confederacy attacked. Heavy artillery bombardment, and eventually the union surrendered. Grant wasn"t here when the attack happened, he was 7 miles away eating breakfast lmfao what. At night began to rain, people heard screaming all night. 2nd day, quite different, union reinforcements came back and pushed confederacy back.
