Determinism for every event there exist conditions that could cause no other event. Newton objects in motion will remain in motion, unless they are acted upon by external force. Everything is happening because of the directions molecules started moving at the big bang. There is no such thing as free will. Particle physics < molecular biology < physiology < behavior < sociology. Everything can be explained by particle physics but it is boring, and it is not how we experience life. On method: importance of objectivity and evidence in search for truth, researchers should distance themselves from any influence. On method: all knowledge from the world originates from our experiences and is derived from our senses, led to key ideas from science about objective, unbiased observation being applied to social science. Grew up in france following the french revolution, educated and worked during the industrial revolution. Spent his career attempting to understand french society sociology.
