John McCain - the opposite of Senator Joe McCarthy, McCarthyism (1950) investigating “un-American” activities (i.e. communism, homosexuality etc.) - on the heels of censorship after 911 - open American shows with “Goodbye Earl” – murdering an abusive husband Album after Top of the World is Taking the Long Way - Rick Rubins (Def Jam), producer - Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), drummer - more song-writing by band (“Not Ready to Make Nice”) Maines did go solo, with the album Mother (2013) Maguire and Robinson go by “The Courtyard Hounds” Censorship PMRC (Parents Music Resource Centre) Dee Snider at PMRC hearing - “censorship” labels on pop records Rap Mix Master Mike: hybridity Eminem, Snoop Dog, Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z etc …? - rap associated with bling/ materialism, misogy
