PHAR 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Peripheral Nervous System, Muscarinic Acetylcholine Receptor, Cerebral Cortex
Document Summary
Section 01: physiological and pharmacological aspects of the central. A vast number of drugs affect the nervous system. In general, the nervous system is specialized to recognize, process, integrate, and react to stimuli in the environment. Recognize: identify changes in the internal or external environment. E. g. a change in the external temperature (28c vs 0cc) Process and integrate: perceive the changes in the environment. E. g. the body feels hot or cold. React: produce a response or an action to the changes in the environment. E. g. the body will sweat or shiver. Divisions of the nervous system: the nervous system controls all bodily functions. It consists of two divisions: the central and the peripheral nervous systems. Central nervous system: the cns is composed of the brain and spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system: the pns is composed of all nervous system tissues outside of the cns. The central nervous system: contains the brain and spinal cord.
