Ethical theories can provide justification for political philosophies. Morals& political view must both be supported by good reasons or good facts. Foundational/ worldwide focuses on: ideas of good an virtue. Political/ country focuses on: political/ legal philosophies; debateable by types of govnt. Applied ethics/ cities: combo of both foundation& political for case scenarios. Meta-ethics: study of beliefs (what is good, what is right) Normative ethics- moral rules that guide our conduct. Consequ entialism individual based notes objections: suppresses individual freedom 2. Ignores minories 3. maybe not what is best ex/ ignoring charities 4. Weight on family should be more on strangers. Good consequences like seatbelt laws where pros (save lives) outweigh the cons (annoyance) Utilitarianism good if it improves the welfare of the nation& bad if does opposite. Good if it creates the maximum / (greatest good& greatest number) *note money is not good for moral st&ards. As there should be no price on morality.
