Document Summary

The nervous system the nervous system is in charge of both your voluntary and involuntary movements. The nervous system is comprised of two parts: the central nervous system (cns) and the peripheral nervous system (pns) In the central nervous system there is the brain, the retina in your eyes, and the spinal cord. The nerves are part of the peripheral nervous system. Motor or efferent nerves transmit information (or signals) from the brain. Sensory or afferent nerves sends information from the body to the brain. There are a lot of mixed nerves, they serve both jobs. The cell that is part of this system is called the neuron (nerve cell), they have the ability to send information (signals) quick. They transmit this information with electromechanical waves and axons, thin fibers. There are 100 billion neurons in a brain. If lined up together, they"ll be longer than 960 km. In a spinal cord, there are 13,500,000 nerve cells.
