Meritocratic distribution according to talents or abilities requires level playing field . Socialism as an example of altruistic model: distribution should be according to need. From each according to his/her ability; to each according to his/her need . Equality of outcome: society may be strengthened by minimizing inequalities. In a liberal society the way of which people vote is based off of self interest and individual self interest couldn"t lead to a social justice system. He set up a hypothetical situation that he called the veil of ignorance. If everyone did this we would have a set of principles that would give us a social justice orientation look on the world and the world would be better. Made some liberal assumptions everyone needs food, shelter, education. Also assumed that we are all self interested and rational and that we are choosing as individuals.
