Rights-firth element: the ability to require the performance of a duty, what others must do to respect freedom. Directly through deliberative bodies, co-ops, and referendums. Responsible government government must always have the confidence of parliament. Liberal democracy: is a response to arbitrary state power, has a concept of fairness and equality. Procedural vs. substantive choice: sees society as atomistic. Political culture: is it an effect or a cause, distinguishing traits. Independent variables: the thing that is manipulated or tested. Dependant variable: the response that is measured.
