Socialist environmentalist think that capitalism is damaging environment. Anarchist environmentalist think human domination over the environment is wrong. Eco-feminism says that woman are connected to the environment differently than men. Indigenous environmentalism - practice of colonization lead to domination over nature. Outline: history, free market environmentalism, reform liberal/social democratic environmentalism, radical and socialist environmentalism, challenges of environmentalism to political thought, anti-environmentalism. Earlier societies had closer links to landscape, were less capable of widespread damage. Changes in obvious environmental damage of industrial revolution. First wave of environmentalism: early utopian socialist and/or anarchist communities often anti- industrial. Marx"s critique of alienation from nature as part of critique of capitalism. But- primarily, contemporary environmentalism a response to recognition of the impact humans now are able to have on the environment. International panel on climate change report 95% certain that human activity is causing. Likelihood of dramatic impact: starvation, poverty, flooding, storms, heat waves drought, disease, war, violence.
