Psychotherapy: process of resolving personal, emoional, behavioral & social problems to improve well-being. In ancient imes, mental disorders were viewed negaively (ailiaion with devils/spirits) 1950s deinsituionalizaion: residenial treatment centers, community psychology. Before treaing a paient, a psychologist will assess client"s nature and degree of symptoms. Elicit client"s personal history and present: measurement are gathered by observaion, interviews, quesionnaires, blood studies. Clinical interviews are oten conducted ^ (insight therapy: oten semi structured (predetermined quesions + expansion) Examining of funcioning of cogniion: cogniion or neuropsychological tests. Behavior monitoring: recording speciic behaviors and the circumstances around these behaviors, conducted by client or people around them, determine frequency of certain behavior, precursor or antecedent circumstances and reinforcement that perpetuate. Psychiatrists: have a medical degree + psychiatry degree, can prescribe medicine. Clinical psychologist: doctoral degree in c. p with training in assessment & treatment & training in staisics & research. Counselling psychologist: doctoral degree in counselling psychology, focused less in research, more in clinical pracice.
