Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour, thought and experience. Not the study of the brain, the brain matters. Psychology falls underneath natural sciences and social sciences: an understanding of the processes of the world and the processes of people. Psychology influences: medicine, education, business, humanities, law, engineering: clinicians, educations, managers, philosophers, witnesses, designers. While all these fields are related to psychology, they have different philosophical approaches. Law: a standard, a typical person with ordinary powers of self control. Economics: an assumption, people maximize their needs and desires. Gain scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. Discover yourself and what makes you human. Structuralism: knowledge through reduction into elements: when psychology took off, chemistry was very prevalent, wilhelm wundt: sought to identialy mental atoms understand human behaviour by breaking it down completely and working up. Used reaction time (ball clicker) and introspection (interviewing patients) to understand human behaviour and would use volunteers to communicate everything on their mind.
