Document Summary

People are accurate in judging a stranger"s intelligence (as measured by formal intelligence tests) after very brief exposure. Intelligence is complex and there are many types of intelligence, street smarts vs book smarts , practical intelligence vs general intelligence . Includes things like the ability to overcome obstacles, solve problems, make decisions vis reality based (rational) considerations. You don"t need education to have practical intelligence. A way of referring to a person"s underlying general capacity to process complex information- to perform well on a wide variety of tasks (mental & manual) Thought to be measured by intelligence tests which yield an intelligence quotient, or iq. Originally computed by comparing a child"s score against the scores of other children from a similar population but of different ages. 100 became the standard iq for the average child. Although the label of iq is still used today, it technically no longer exists.
