Document Summary
Broadest diagnosis of anxiety which can co-occur with other anxiety disorders. Different from general worry (not pathological) - can"t diagnose gad if only 2 months. Time - more days than not for 6 months. Antidepressants - may be better medication option. Don"t have long-term effects after treatment ends like talk therapy. Cbt for gad - long term relief, targets irrational thinking and uncertainty tolerance. Acceptance and commitment therapy (act) - mindfulness and tolerance. Panic attacks and associated worry about having panic attacks. Panic attacks characterized by: racing heart, sweating, shortness of breath, choking, chest pain, dizziness, feelings of numbness, losing control, etc. Experienced as if one is having a heart attack. The experience of panic attacks becomes panic disorder when the panic attacks are recurrent, unexpected, and associated with worry about having more panic attacks or changing behaviour to avoid them. Time: panic attack reaches peak in minutes, followed by 1 month of related worry/avoidance (specific to a panic attack)
