Many psychologists work as part of a team in hospitals, agencies, and family health teams. Family health teams: funded by the government to provide more holistic care. In private practice you may need to refer elsewhere, read reports, understand other services a client is receiving and be able to interpret reports from these services. Most health sciences programs require training in interprofessional competency. Typically psychiatry but may include other medical specializations. Gate keepers to initially assess client needs and refer to appropriate services, whether it be psychology, social work, behaviour therapy and so on. Psychiatrists have medical training, skilled in intake interviewing and talk therapy. Generally thought of as front line health care workers. Case management - facilitate communication between clients and health care providers, or between the health care providers. Specialized skills for counseling, psychotherapy, or for working with unique populations. Main contact in emergency situations, may be more likely to conduct home visits.
