Qualitative research: main purpose is to understand trend across populations, try to effect a positive social change and when doing this you have to understand how you communicate the findings. Comparing qualitative to quantitative research: point of view of participants vs. researchers, close relationships with participants, potential negative consequences, develop out of the research (theories, as opposed to testing theories. Instead of social laws, it is most concerned with contextualized understanding: more emphasis on the micro processes. Nature of qualitative research: constructionist (not objective)
