Will focus on north americana and european societies in the post war period. Depending on how society is defined, current characterizations might include: Urbanizations: what happens when people end up in cities, bigger cities, different dynamics. Communication and travel across boarders has increased significance. Displacement of people: people roaming the world without rights or citizenship, people being kicked out. Vast inequalities in wealth: the distance between rich and poor widening between people as well as between nations. The uncertainties around identity, belonging and the future: around who we are going to be and what we are going to end up doing, what groups we belong to and if that is fixed. The technological reorganization of institutional and everyday life: dominance of technology in what everyone is doing and what they are being. The questioning of modern expertise and authority: things like science, the questioning of everything and everyone.
