Drifting into prostitution, usually through a boyfriend who wants to make money. 92% of non-street prostitutes in the u. s. are white/caucasian. Their clients are usually white middle class men ages 30-60. U. s. context, prostitution as an act, women get arrested more than men. Canada, the communication of it is more prosecuted: shifting legal definitions in canada. Canadian law reform: feminism, decriminalization: not promoting it, social reform, religious people, feminism, evangelicals, constance backhouse: vagrancy, undesirable people hanging around - status offence. Bodyhouses: mariana valverde: reform institutions were formed to provide moral guidance to prostitutes, vag c (vagrancy): people mostly women who couldn"t provide a sufficient reason to be in that situation. Sexist, women who could not explain themselves were thought to be a sex worker and arrested, while males were not questioned. Part of social construction and therefore a social problem: justice ott lang, 1983: bill c-127: any person can be a prostituted not just women.
