Belief & doubt: four approaches *potential quiz/test question. If a belief is xed on tenacity it is very strong, against what others think. If it is xed on authority there is an in uential gure in the situation that is idolized, their set of beliefs are followed. If it is xed on fashion then it is a cultural belief within the society, trying to t in with whats new although not told by anyone to do this, swept up in the general current. Peirce says there is a fourth element: inquiry. Driven by curiosity and the pursue of the truth. Left brain: know about, know how. (ef ciency, control)
