He is from the city of war: this city is surrounded by walls that suggest external threats. He is extra human (two parts god 1 part human) Gilgamesh is explained at the start of the story that he is not ruling properly: he is shown as an arrogant leader, he is beating up all the men and having sex with all the women. The goddess creates enkidu, a counterpart to control and restrain gilgamesh. With this behaviour the people appeal the gods for aid. Unlike gilgamesh, enkidu is harmonious with his surroundings. The people are uncomfortable with enkidu, so the go back to gilgamesh for help: he sends the women to control him. Using religion as a vessel for power. Civilization dominated nature (enkidu becoming human like) Non- physical immortality -> the reasoning behind gilgamesh"s thirst to kill huwawa. North are more mountains, the south is more like marshes -> has a lot of resources.
