Empathy & positive regard is critical = promotes optimal development. The idea of relational process" of intervention with children, youth & families has characterized cyc practice. Cyc"s cannot work without the context of relationships we work from within it & through it. Focus is always on the child, youth & family, not the cyc"s personal needs. In cyc practice, the relational view means that the relationship is reciprocal both caregiver & care receiver are influenced in their development. A therapeutic interventive relationship occurs when cyc"s enter into the rhythm" or. Cyc"s must be present in the moment & fully available & responsive to the person but also have awareness of his/her own history, the context & the child"s needs. The relationship is the intervention that the cyc & the child create together. Caring for others is essential for emotional growth, developing social competence & promoting healthy development.
