Focuses on the emotional experiences of the child &/or youth & the other members of the environment. Involves the emotional make-up of the individual (temperament, emotional experiences to date, ability to feel a tactile sense, collective sensory experiences & current emotional state of being. Also involves the collective sensory-emotional experiences of the individuals that occupy the space, their ability to express emotions & the level of acceptance & tolerance for emotional expression. A safe sensory-emotional milieu is an environment that promotes the expression of emotions without fear of judgment & negative consequences. It tolerates children &/or youth making mistakes to better learn appropriate ways of dealing with their emotions. This environment establishes rules to eliminate all forms of sensory-emotional ridicule & neglect. It is within this milieu that children learn about their emotions, how to identify & express them. An inclusive sensory-emotional milieu encourages children &/or youth learning about how their expressions of emotions impact others.
