Lesson 11: Talking about the Weather
天气
Grammar
2. The Particle (le)(III): as a Sentence-Final Particle
When (le) occurs at the end of a sentence, it usually indicates a change a status or
the realization of a new situation.
我昨天沒有空儿,今天有空儿了。
W zuótiān méiy u kòngr, jīntiān y u kòngr le.ǒ ǒ ǒ
(I didn’t have time yesterday, but I do today.)
(le) can still be used at the end of a sentence even if the sentence is in the
negative.
没有钱了,不买了。
W méiy u qiánle, bù m ile.ǒ ǒ ǎ
(I don’t have any money [left]. I won’t buy it anymore.)
Remember that to negate (y u, to have)ǒ, one uses (méi), not
(bù).
3. The Modal Verb (, will )(II)
(huì) indicates an anticipated event or action.
白老师現在不在办公室,可是他明天会在。
Bái l oshī xiànzài bùzài bàngōngshì, kěshì tā míngtiān huì zài.ǎ
(Teacher Bai is not in the office now, but he will be tomorrow.)
The negative form of (huì) is 不会 (bù huì):
她这几天特別忙,晚上不会去听音乐会。
Tā zhè j tiān tèbié máng, w nshàng bù huì qù tīng yīnyuè huì.ǐ ǎ
(She is very busy these days. She won’t be going to the concert tonight.)
4. Adj + () 点儿({yì} di nr)ǎ
The expression ()点儿({yì} di nr) can be placed after an adjective to indicate slight ǎ
qualification. (yì) is optional.
前几天我很不高兴,昨天考试考得很好,我高兴点儿了。
Qián j tiān w hěn bù gāoxìng, zuótiān k oshì k o dé hěn h o, w gāoxìng di nr le.ǐ ǒ ǎ ǎ ǎ ǒ ǎ
I was very unhappy a few ago. I did very well on the exam yesterday. I am a little bit
happier now.
