It will explore the roles of forensic scientists and expert witnesses and the examination of evidence. Topics will include areas of chemical analysis, such as chromatography and mass spectrometry, the analysis of physical evidence such as paper, paint and blood, dna testing and fingerprinting. Students will gain an appreciation of the science and techniques involved in the analysis of controlled substances, such as drugs, and of forensic toxicology. A science-based approach to analyze issues related to crime scene investigations will be presented. Case studies and videos in forensic anthropology, forensics of fire, forensic psychology and forensic odontology will provide varied perspectives on forensic applications used to resolve criminal and legal issues.
