CHY 204 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Partial Pressure, Myoglobin, Antibody
Document Summary
Some ligand interactions are reversible, others are not reversible inside the cell. Irreversible: antibodies and something the antibody recognizes (antigen) Proteins can change conformation, ligand can be the thing the protein wants to act on. Induced fit: think of baseball, when the ball is thrown at a club, the shape of the gloves changes to fit the shape of the ball. This is the same for a protein and a ligand. Antibodies can recognize carbohydrates, glycoproteins, dna (anything that has a structure) Configuration: the way the covalent bonds are arranged in a molecule. Only know kd values and interpret the graph. Oxygen is with a buffer system inside of us in the lungs. Effects the amount of how much oxygen is dissolved (partial pressure) Ph in the tissue makes it give up oxygen. Ph in the lungs make it take up oxygen. Sickle cell anemia is due to misfolding and a mutation that occurs.
