Persuading people usually means applying rhetoric" or rhetorical strategies to gain agreement from an audience. Rhetoric is the use of crafted language to prompt action or an emotional response. Use an indirect approach by slowly leading into the ask". Gain attention (compliment, or appeal to social conscience) Persuade them to accept the call for help: give background on the issue at hand, state the benefits of their help. Tell them specifically how they can help you. Claims - make a valid claim for payment, compensation, reimbursement, etc. Prove your claim is valid (state the problem, reasons for making a claim, policies that can be used to support your claim) Persuasive memos (getting your organization or an individual to accept an idea, initiative, plan, etc. ) Explain how the problem can be solved. Minimize resistance (anticipate counterarguments like cost, time, or resistance to change), state the benefits.
