Race": a socially constructed category, artificial construct, intellectual error not grounded in any objective or biological reality. Chinatown, little italy, little bombay, koreatown: research: more biological variation within groups than between groups, race": to acknowledge/recognize the term is a social construction. 3-10 chun and chan article- take up issues about the creation of racial categories and racial hierarchy and also talk about the idea that race isn"t real. They refer to it being a concept of race, intellectual error. Creation of categories and putting people with those characteristics into those categories. Social differences across people on race, sex, class, religion, sexual orientation. Not enough differences to mean that we should be categorized differently. Result of the way human societies have organized themselves and the belief system that has emerged over time. Women have been socially constructed to be worth less than men. The poor- stereotypes of the poor: lazy.
