Was established through colonial violence and the subordination and exploitation of aboriginal and black populations. Hegemonic masculinity -> white, middle class, able bodied, heterosexual men. Hegemonic femininity -> white middle class, able bodied, heterosexual women subordinated to hegemonic men.
