"agency" can be described as the rational will of individuals in combination with the rational decision making capacity of individuals. Tom bennett suggests that (cid:862)(cid:373)ode(cid:396)(cid:374) ge(cid:374)de(cid:396) studies are careful to avoid stereotyping african women as poor and powerless and western women as affluent and educated. In particular, they avoid treating women as the helpless victims of circumstances.
